Review & Comparison Policy
How we compare manual coffee equipment and the boundaries of our evidence.
Evaluation Criteria
Hardware comparisons prioritize utility, material longevity, and ongoing operating cost over aesthetic novelty. Every product assessment centers on four key criteria:
- Materials & Build Safety
- Declared contact materials (stainless steel, borosilicate glass, silicone, or plastics) and resistance to thermal shock or corrosion.
- Workflow & Routine Fit
- Chamber volume, breakdown speed, ease of manual cleaning, and travel packability versus daily countertop stability.
- Burr & Grind Mechanics
- Burr material specs (ceramic vs. 420/304 stainless steel), dual-bearing stabilization claims, and adjustment click granularity.
- Consumables & Replacements
- Compatibility with non-proprietary paper filters and availability of standard replacement gaskets.
Scope and Evidence Limitations
Specification Analysis, Not Laboratory Testing
Filter & Burr conducts document-backed specification research. We do not operate an engineering test facility, perform destructive stress testing, run particle size distribution lasers, or conduct metallurgical lab tests.
Our reviews compare published tolerances, supplier documentation, material disclosures, and user-accessible design standards against market baselines. We do not guarantee performance outcomes or individual extraction results.
